Misconception there's no fish in Jersey
Why dive in Jersey? I would never Dive in Jersey! It’s too cold there is nothing to see! I only dive in a tropical place! These are phrases I constantly hear and probably said once or twice myself before actually giving diving in Jersey a go.
It is correct to say that the water in Jersey is not as warm as tropical places but it is relative to what you wear! I have been handed a shorty in Costa Rica in 28 degrees and frozen… so all you need to do is where the right stuff.
The fish and the marine life are different too, of course, we don’t see Nemo … but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to see … in Jersey, we have wrecks, drifts, and even reefs. With truly some of the most diverse dive sites that I have seen, and contrary to what some people believe I haven’t only dived in Jersey at Bouley bay ha ha.
Jersey actually has coral and some pretty cool looking fish that many of you wouldn’t expect to be seen here…
what I like about Jersey diving is that on the first glace on a wall maybe it would appear there is nothing but when you really look there is so many corals, sponges, nudibranchs, and little critters. Also that each year and each season is so different bringing marine life that we haven’t seen in a while or maybe not at all.
Of course, I love my warm water diving where the Vis is 60 plus meters who doesn’t …but that doesn’t mean I don’t like Jersey Diving also.
There is no cooler diving than when it is right on your doorstep and there is actually some pretty cool stuff to see.
